Around 1100 A.D., Bishop Fugger from Montefiascone was traveling from Germany to Rome for the coronation of Henry V. He sent his quartermaster ahead to scout out inns that had the best food and wine. He would write Est! (Latin for “This is it!”) on the walls of the best inns. He was so impressed with Montefiascone that he wrote Est! Est! Est!. Needless to say, he never made the coronation. He spent the rest of his life in Montefiascone. On the anniversary of his death, local inhabitants pour a cask of Est! Est! Est! on his grave.

about 185,000 vineyard acres and is one of Italy’s top three regions in total wine production.
It is also the top producer of DOC-approved wines.

The DOC is located in central Italy’s Abruzzi region. It is named after the grape variety Montepulciano which must make up at least
85 percent of this DOC’s wine (the rest is Sangiovese). The wines are full bodied and capable of long aging.

The name Dogajolo comes from the Latin term “Doga” meaning wood stave,
since the wine finishes its fermentation process in new wood oak barrels,
where it is aged for 6 months.

The bouquet is ample, intense and elegant with berry fruit, chocolate and roasted
almond notes, sustained by superb structure and depth. Aged 12 months in French Oak.

Grapes come from Cariano, the best zone for Amarone. The grapes are dried on racks until January at which time the shriveled raisin-like grapes begin the slow, long fermentation and aging process.
After 4 years of careful and patient aging, the resulting wine combines sheer power with ripe softness. The taste is opulent and deep with an elegant, lingering finish.
